Beacon Gives Back:

Helping “Send Hunger Packing”

Mercer Street Friends Food Bank

Beacon is built on the Go-Giver philosophy and this month we’re going to put that into action to fight childhood hunger and food insecurity in the Princeton/Mercer County region.

We’ll be rolling up our sleeves and volunteering our time and effort to assemble food packs for the Send Hunger Packing program.

Send Hunger Packing

In partnership with 23 local schools, the Food Bank provides over 750 children identified as at-risk for hunger with nutritious kid-friendly food that they take home Friday afternoons during the school year. The food packs ensure that the children have meals to eat over the weekend and return to school nourished and ready to learn.

Beacon Gives Back

After some pizza and a brief welcome and overview by the Food Bank Director, Dr. Denalerie Johnson-Faniel, we’ll head into the warehouse and get to work assembling food packs.

Please wear comfortable, casual clothing (assume the warehouse temperature is the same as the outside temperature). Best bet is to change before you arrive, but there’s options to change there if you need to.

Our goal is to help the Food Bank at a time of year when volunteerism often drops off. We’re just providing some pizza, bottled water and some soft drinks because we’d like to use as much of our event fee as possible as a donation to the food bank so they can continue their work year round.

Please join us on May 16th as Beacon Gives Back!

Benefit Organization: Mercer Street Friends Food Bank leads the community response to hunger and is the primary source of government and privately donated food targeted for hunger relief programs in the Trenton/Mercer County area.

Mercer Street Friends Food Bank channels 2.7 million pounds of food and groceries annually to a network of 80 local food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, meal sites, schools, senior and disabled programs and low-income housing sites. Their food distribution and hunger prevention programs reach over 30,000 people who face the pain and indignity of hunger.
