Jonathan Smith…As a director at Fairmount Partners, Jonathan Smith is primarily responsible for executing transactions across the healthcare (including provider and payer technology and outsourced services) and industrial and consumer products (including manufacturing, food and beverage, distribution and services) sectors.
For more than 17 years, Jonathan has focused on providing a combination of merger and acquisition (buy-side and sell-side), private placement (growth capital, equity recapitalizations and debt refinancing), and general financial advisory services, primarily to entrepreneurial and closely held companies. He has been a key member of deal teams that have executed 80+ transactions, representing more than $3 billion in aggregate value.
Jonathan is the editor of Fairmount’s Vital Signs publication, a bi-monthly report focused on the Healthcare Information Technology and Healthcare Information Technology-enabled services (HIT) sectors. Vital Signs is a summary of the market performance of public companies within the HIT sector, coupled with detailed accounts of recently completed HIT financing (venture capital and private equity) and M&A transactions.
Experience: Jonathan joined Fairmount Partners in April 2005 as an associate, later becoming a vice president at the firm. Prior to joining Fairmount, he was an associate (2001-2005) at Brentwood Capital Advisors, a boutique investment bank focused on raising institutional capital (private equity, subordinated debt, and senior debt), principally for healthcare services companies. Before working for Brentwood Capital, he was a financial analyst (2000-2001) at Robert W. Baird & Co., a global investment bank with concentrated efforts on sell-side M&A and public equity offerings.
Education: Jonathan Smith received his B.B.A., magna cum laude, in Finance from Loyola University Maryland. He is also a member of Philadelphia’s Alumni Board of Directors for Loyola University Maryland. Jonathan is registered with FINRA and is Series 7-, 63- and 79-licensed.
