NEW BEACON MEMBER

INTRODUCTORY EMAIL TEMPLATE

INTRODUCTION BACKGROUND:

As a new member to Beacon, you are invited to give an introduction to the entire organization.  It is our belief that you want to create an introduction that "establishes your mission" within the group.  NOT TOO MUCH, NOT TOO LITTLE, but just the right amount of information is your goal, and keeping in mind that your audience will have a short attention span, so "get to the point"..... here are some suggested elements and possible wording for a good introduction.

6 ELEMENTS OF A GOOD INTRODUCTION EMAIL:

1. SUBJECT LINE: should be inviting to the community but focused for capabilities.  NAME, and INDUSTRY or TALENT should be a part.

"NEW MEMBER, James Bond.......Information Technology Executive...Business Development"

2. BRIEF (very brief) INTRODUCTION -  keep this paragraph 3-6 lines at "executive level" indicating high level skill and possibly work history by company, as this may help members who are looking at specific skills or target connections.

"As a general overview, I am a seasoned in-house counsel with 20+ years experience in a variety of industries in the Delaware Valley -- GE Capital Transport International Pool, De Lage Landen Financial Services, Weston Solutions, and most recently, Vishay Intertechnology, where I was General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.  I’m a true generalist and have a passion for being a business-centric and energetic legal partner.  I like to get things done."

3. GOALS - state simply your near term goals for being in the group.

"Currently, I am looking for my next full time opportunity in a CFO or Finance      role, and can bring value in the healthcare, insurance and manufacturing spaces.   I am open for consulting opportunities while in transition.  I am looking forward to contributing to the Supply Chain and CFO subcommittees, as well."

OR -- if not in transtion, here is another:

"I am a partner in XXXX, a coaching and leadership development firm specializing
in helping executives navigate the labyrinth of career success. We work with professionals, managers and senior leaders so they can effectively handle career challenges - as well as help organizations develop targeted executive development strategies.  XXXX has a growing reputation for group coaching that improves professional performance.

OR – if part of a big company:

“As a leader in a large pharmaceutical company in the marketing discipline, I’m looking to connect with fellow peers in either marketing or public relations to expand my network. I also have a deep interest in people development and management, so I’d also love to connect with like-minded individuals and subject matter experts in Beacon.”

4. CLOSE - Make a brief closing statement, providing your contact information, encouraging people to connect with you on SocialLink and LinkedIn, and offering to be of help to anyone who needs it.

5. PERSONAL – Offer up a little information about you personally.  Do you have any hobbies or outside interests (golf, tennis, biking); where you live; kids / family; favorite teams.

6. THANK YOU - brief and positive, with no need to go into a long statement.

I would like to thank my sponsor, YYYY and interviewer ZZZZ for introducing me and welcoming me to BEACON.  I am excited to get to know you, as well as be of service to you in any way that I can."

CLOSING THOUGHTS ON YOUR INTRO:  This is intended as a quick hello that can

spark some conversations....not a long sales pitch or detailed review of your job history.  Make sure you have completed your profile, including uploading your resume and a headshot, on the Beacon website.  Don’t procrastinate. Get your intro out to the group quickly so we can get to know you better!
