Subgroups & Communities of Practice: Professional Services

Welcome to the Professional Services Subgroup

 Mission:

Assist members in their development and growth as professional services providers. Facilitate the exchange of information and business opportunities in order to provide enhanced client services and expand professional practices. Provide a network of learning opportunities.

Morris Yankell

Chair

 Strategy:

The Professional Services subgroup has identified three areas of strategic focus moving forward. These areas were distilled from members surveys, input during meetings and through dialogue and consultation with subgroup members. The areas of focus include Learning & Networking, Collaboration, and Tools & Techniques.

Objectives:

  • Assist Subgroup members with strategies and techniques for gaining entrée to (networking into) prospective clients to discuss their business issues and potential solutions.
  • Provide a forum for members to explore collaboration and partnering opportunities to enhance their practices.
  • Acquaint Subgroup members with the services available in other practice areas that they could incorporate to provide clients with a more comprehensive service offering.
  • Provide direct feedback to other GPSEG Consulting Professionals through our "Company of the Month" interactive discussions.
  • Provide outside speakers and internal presentations to teach new techniques and tools for members to enhance their development as consultants.
  • Review and discuss events, regional, national and global, in areas such as business conditions and trends, economic developments, legislative and regulatory changes, and similar matters that impact our members' and our client's businesses.

Qualifications

Open to all GPSEG members who actively practice in the field of professional services or those who are moving into consulting services as a career step.

Meetings:

Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month. Generally, in even months they are held at the Pyramid Club in Philadelphia and in the odd months they are held  at the Desmond Hotel in Malvern.  Meetings begin at 7:30 with informal networking, followed by a structured agenda beginning at 8:00. The typical meeting format includes a guest speaker covering relevant topics of interest, informational presentations from subgroup members on various issues and a review of the "Company of the Month", highlighting business challenges faced by subgroup members in their companies. Meetings conclude at 10:00 with additional time allotted for informal networking afterwards.

Group Leadership

The Chairman and Co-Chair are responsible for the overall guidance, leadership and development of the group. Meetings are led by subgroup members on a rotating basis. The meeting leader is responsible for setting and distributing the meeting agenda, scheduling the speaker, publicizing the event and venue and chairing the meeting. Minutes are taken and published by the member who is responsible for leading the following month's meeting.

Consulting Professionals:

  • Do you need to keep abreast of events that influence your business practice?
  • Would you like to receive advice and counsel from other consulting professionals?
  • Would a broader service offering, employing alliances with other members, be beneficial to you and your clients?
  • Are you looking to develop new tools and techniques to further enhance your practice?
  • Are you willing to share your experience and networking contacts with other professionals?

If you answer YES to some or all of these questions, please join us by registering for our next meeting.
